Having assignment after assignment can be extremely intimidating at first, but with the help of some useful strategies it’s easy to prioritize and strategize in order to get work done and achieve your goals.
This is for you, college students. Rock those finals. Here are some tips to get you started:
1) Make daily to-do lists…but cross off the little stuff early on.
What I mean by this is include stuff you have to do that day, and stuff you would do on any other day. Our brains are wired to associate a crossed off task to a feeling of accomplish, so crossing off the small stuff early on gets those good feelings of productivity flowing. So you can go on with the rest of your day all like…
2) Prioritize your tasks.
Determine what HAS to be done today, and what can wait until tomorrow. This way you won’t feel as overwhelmed with what you need to do. This also helps you know exactly what you need to accomplish, and when you need to accomplish it. This way you can avoid feeling a little like this…
3) Get down to business with some positive music.
Think of a song that is super peppy and has a good message. Use that song to get you ready to take on the day, and all of and crazy amounts of studying or work that comes with it. This song will put you in a productive mind-set, which is absolutely needed in order to punch today in the face and tackle those tasks. Go ahead, start doing that victory dance.
I personally love “Watch me Shine” by Joanna Pacitti. This may or may not be because her and I have the same first name.
Okay, so it’s totally because her and I have the same first name.
4) Never lose sight of the end goal.
It’s easy to feel depleted when we’re working on assignment after assignment. However, it is super important to think about the end goal you are going to accomplish. For example, studying for finals may stink, but thinking about how happy you will be when those finals are finally done sure doesn’t. Once these finals or tasks are done you can go out with your friends and have some real fun.
5) Choose faith over fear.
Have faith in yourself and your abilities. Have faith that you are making progress and that all the tasks thrown in your way are there to help you reach your dreams, and have no fear that you’ll be guided through all your tasks with support and encouragement. You got this, now own it.
But don’t just take my word for it. As a wise woman once said:
So go ahead and get started on those tasks. You know I’m rooting for you.
